I tried to instantly get this reel back in December when I saw it was for sale. Unfortunately I was about an hr to late and it was sold from a place in Texas to a guy in Boston. I contacted the new owner and offered to buy it but he declined. Yesterday he contact me and offered to sell. It should be on its way to me very soon. I think this is a very cool piece of local history. I know many here don't like Doaks but I do and can't wait to drop by the shop with this. It's estimated that this would have been sold sometime in the 1950's

Very nice! How long ago were there only three digits in Doak's phone number? That might indicate the decade. But I thought the smooth aluminum reel foot was a more recent addition?

From what I was told the 3 digit phone number was eliminated in 1958. I think the aluminum seat started sometime post 1950 but I'm still looking into it. Even if its a repair/replaced foot I'm happy.

A great piece of Miramichi history Chris. I am sure that Jerry will be excited to see it. I remember many trips to Wallace's shop with my grand-father and father. An interesting man was Wallace

I remember once while at the old shop Wallace stated to a prospective buyer  "Hardy reels are for fishermen and Pfleuger reels are for poachers". If I remember correctly the gentleman bought the St. John reel!!

I guess I may have you beat. 2 Marquis, 1 Viscount, 1 St.John and 1 1498 Medalist , so I guess I was only a poacher one fifth of the time Laughing
