Anybody have any experience with these rods? Looking at maybe making this my new single hand rod instead of getting a Sage One or Method.

Really nice rods from what I've read. The 2014 8wt shootout results are online now too. Some good info there on 8wt rods from 20 different manufacturers.

Try this link Chris:

If you don't have time to read it all, scroll way down till you come to the results tables. Looks like the Helios 2 was second only to the Loomis NRX

The NRX ain't the prettiest but it's built to fish according to the reports!

Yep they seam to favor the Loomis for sure. The top few rods are all very close with edge to the Loomis out 60'-80'. Not sure if 70'-80' is really important to me as up close since this rod will be used mainly on the tribs where its shorter casts. Casting a spey rod has really taught be how much line is actually out there since its all segmented with known lengths.

I think its going to come down to the in-shop wiggle and feel test. Why Loomis can't make this choice easier by just putting regular stripper guides on their rods rather that those wire recoil ones is beyond me. They look and are so cheap. I've read many complaints about them online and even the guys in the report say they make noise when under a load. That would annoy the s*** out of me.

If I was choosing between the two I'd tend to lean toward the Helios just for the classic Orvis flyfishing name if nothing else.
