Am I going to have a problem putting a #7 Line on a new Hardy Marquis? I tried looking it up and it seems that the Marquis are only made for some big weight lines, I could be wrong. It seem like the #1 is made for a 10 Weight line from what I could gather really quick. Ive also herd it doesnt really matter as Hardy a made for palming or fingering. Can anyone set me straight.

If you're talking about a Marquis salmon 1, there will be no problem with a 7wt line on it.  I use it for scandi heads on my smaller spey rods, like 6 wts (250-300gr wt) rods.  Its all about balance, really.  will the salmon 1 balance your rod, or be too heavy?  And its a palming drag reel, BTW.  I have two of them and two Salmon 2's.  Love 'em.

As Gary said, the Marquis Salmon reels are great; I use the Salmon 1 on a nine foot nine weight and sometimes on an 11 foot 6wt rod. As a general rule, if my rod weighs about half the weight of the reel it seems to balance in my hand pretty good. That reel will have lots of room for backing with a seven wt weight forward or even double taper on it.

So i ended up getting the reel. I like it so far, it balances well with my rod but only once I get out fishing will I know for sure but Im confident. Nothing can beat the classic sound and look of the Hardys eh! I also picked up a nice Frabill Conservation series Net which ive been wanting for awhile now.

So I used this reel with my Hardy rod this summer and it worked great.  Used it mainly for sea trout and it was perfect.  The only thing I noticed was I found that I got a lot of memory from my line.  I have about 200 yards of backing on but my line still gets very curly compared to me other large arbor type reels.  Is there a filler I can use or just use twice as much backing to fill the ree
